Karen Schnietz, PhD, is an associate professor of strategy at the Graziadio School of Business and Management, Pepperdine University. Her research focuses on the impact of public policies on the private competitive environment and strategies of firms, and on the financial impact of corporate social responsibility, and has been published in Business and Politics, Corporate Reputation Review, International Organization, and the Journal of International Business, among other journals. Dr. Schnietz received her AB degree from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, and her MBA and PhD degrees from UC Berkeley. This article grew out of a student assignment in her Strategic Management course.
